Coastal Christmas Stockings Hand Painted Coastal Sea Life Stockings, Beach Christmas

I've made the coastal design stockings since 2011

and have added new designs each year.

This year I added a dolphin stocking

and a lobster...or crawfish stocking

I free hand the scallop design on the top of each stocking cuff

then use my own stencils to lightly draw out my design and

fill in with the dots...millions and millions of dots!

They all have simple white dots scattered on 

the back and my signature in gold.

I get lots of questions every year about where to find these plain

stockings. Well, I couldn't find them either, so I have the stockings 

custom made for me out of natural canvas material.

My tip for lots of canvas fabric? Buy large canvas dropcloths.

You must pre wash and completely tumble dry the dropcloths to shrink 

the weave in the fabric. My seamstress had to cut around the inevitable

seams in the dropcloth fabric but this technique worked great for 

me for many years. This type of canvas can have little threads 

of other colors in the weave but I loved the look!

The octopus is probably one of my favorites, also showing

the turtle, crab, sand dollar, seahorse and starfish stockings.

Hand Painted Trays, Doggy Dining Table, Wood Hearts, Painted Apron, Recycled "Whatever" Sign, Hand Painted Wine Glasses and Faux Mercury Glass Projects

I've had quite a few random projects in the blog post queue to share 

and decided to combine them in one post. Be prepared for lots of pics!

Giant Painted Veggies

First up are these giant hand painted veggie chargers.

They are huge, about 18" diameter. 

I found the metal plates at a thrift store and repainted them.

I chose 3 of my fave fruits and veggies for the designs...

Pomegranates...

Pears...

and artichokes. Yum!

Next, I had an order for a custom doggy dining table. 

This is the customers sweet little dog and the doggy table that she

wanted duplicated, or something similar, in the background.

Leopard print...

And burnished metal look feet.

I used to make these doggy dining tables a lot in the past

but this was back in the day before digital cameras.

This pic shows a few of them.

At Christmas, a customer contacted me needing a couple of 

hand painted wooden hearts for a collage she was working

on for a gift.

She had seen my hand painted Valentine Hearts I had made but

needed a 4" size in specific colors.

They are painted on the sides in stripes...

One is leopard with Pink Crown...

And the other, a pink and cream check.

Next up, is a hand painted apron.

I've done a lot of projects with painted fabric.

I needed a gift for my Mom and created this hand painted apron 

for her. She loves flowers and yellow is a favorite color.

I used a plain canvas apron and painted free form flowers

with metallic gold vines and leaves and deep red checks on the edges.

It turned out pretty cute and she loved it :)

Whatever!

Gorgeous greens, teals, blues and touches of metallic gold. 

They look beautiful from every angle.

Even water tastes better from a pretty glass!

Last project.

If you follow me on Facebook, you may have already seen this pic.

I had a set of glass jars and decided to try the 

faux mercury glass technique that you've all seen on Pinterest

I already had the Krylon looking glass paint on hand. You also need 

a spray bottle of water and it's always a good idea to use a respirator 

when spray painting. 

It literally took like 10 minutes. I lightly misted the inside of 

the glass pieces with water then immediately sprayed the 

looking glass paint. I did a couple of coats on all. Done.

They have that nice mottled mercury glass look 

I like how they turned out!

New Christmas Stocking Designs

Last year, I added new ocean life designs including a shark, 

jellyfish, crab and seahorse

This year I added six more designs, staying with

 the sea life theme and using the same colors and dot style painting.

I have a sand dollar stocking...

I came up with a whole list of other sea life or beachy designs I wanted to do

 but I picked six and figured that would be enough for this year.

I was never able to find any more pre-made natural canvas stockings after those first few

I found on Ebay so I hire someone to make them for me to my own specifications.

The octopus may be my favorite!

Speaking of octopus, I've been on an octopus kick lately, and 

after creating the octopus stocking, I decided I wanted to make a mosaic octopus,

and yes I just used the word octopus five times in this sentence.😜
