Octopus and Sea Turtle Coastal Mosaics, Stained Glass Mosaic Surfboards, Octopus and Sea Turtles
I've been in a mosaic frenzy lately.
I've made several octopus surfboards in this wonderful red and teal
color combo over the last year... that I realize I'm just now blogging about.
I adore octopuses and I love these colors together.
I still offer this design but wanted to create a more versatile octopus
that could be hung vertically or horizontally.
This is the new octopus surfboard design I came up with.
And I think he looks great hung in either direction.
See the video.
Oh yes! Forgot to mention, I have created a YouTube Channel.
I've been using short videos on Instagram here and there to share current work
and love the way videos can capture detail that photos
sometimes can't. I figured I would expand on that and add short clips
of current artwork on my own YouTube Channel.
While I was in octopus mode, I decided to retire my previous
octopus designs and create something new.
The first one I made was in a beautiful teal and purple glass color.
This one has sold but you can still view the video
.
I used the same pattern to create a blue/green mosaic octopus.
See the video of this octopus .
This mosaic octopus is large, about 34" wide and looks great in a coastal setting,
bathroom or anywhere you need a one of a kind piece of octopus art ;)
Since I was in the mode of revamping designs, I also retired the previous
sea turtle surfboard design and created this entirely different version.
This sea turtle mosaic depicts two sea turtles swimming in beautiful Caribbean
blue water with ribbons of kelp or sea grass. I love how it turned out.
For the fins and head, I use broken tempered glass,
it's perfect for this application and gives a great look.
See the video of this surfboard.
I actually created these two mosaic turtles a while back
before I made the new sea turtle surfboard.
They are both sold.
I used the tempered glass again on the fins and head.
I'm thinking of creating more pieces using the tempered glass,
it's so cool and fun to work with.
I tried to create dimension on this piece using lighter and
darker areas of the glass and I think it gives it a great look.
I used the WallApp tool again to place this turtle in a
virtual room. It really helps you see the scale of a piece of art.
Thank you so much for visiting and reading about my mosaics!

Octopus, Seahorse and Sea Turtle Wall Art, Stained Glass and Seashell Mosaic Sea Creatures
Update May 2017
Visit my new online store featuring coastal and nature
themed stained glass mosaics. Lucydesignsart.com.
Hi All. :)
In addition to being in full swing mermaid season, I've been
busy creating other sea creature pieces this summer.
This giant 4 ft octopus is made with the same body style of my
mosaic octopus, but covered in shells instead of stained glass.
Sold out, I'm no longer making the shell octopus.
I used round mother of pearl donut beads for his "suckers".
Every square inch of him is covered in a mixture of
beautiful seashells, barnacles and coral pieces.
Octopus face
This octopus would look incredible in a beach house, bathroom or anywhere
in the home.
I made a large 4 ft seahorse in the same
seashell "mosaic" style.
Sold out, I'm no longer making the shell seahorse.
The seahorse body has huge white scallop shells with a mix of other shells.
I tried to keep most of the shells in the white family on this piece
along with iridescent mother of pearl pieces...very pretty.
Here he is on the wall for an idea of scale.
His companion is a 3ft sea turtle shell mosaic.
Sold out, I'm no longer making the shell turtles.
I used wonderful natural cockle shells on his back.
This stained glass mosaic sea turtle was something I made
a while back and realized I never posted about him.
See more coastal mosaics in my new online store.
I cut the shape out of wood and applied the hand cut
stained glass in shades of green.
I've made 3 more of the stained glass mosaic octopuses.
Sold out, I'm no longer making this exact body style of the
After making these last two, I wanted to make a
different style of octopus and came up with this version..
Lots of swirling tentacles on this octopus.
Sold out, I'm no longer making this body style in the octopus mosaic.
I tried to give the illusion of dimension with the tentacles
crossing each other
I used the same color glass in a cool blue/green mix.
He's pretty big, quite the statement!

and I have clearance paintings in my Etsy shop
That's all for today...see you next time!

Octopus Mosaic Wall Art, Large 4 ft Stained Glass Mosaic Octopus
Update June 2017
I'm no longer making this exact style of octopus but visit
my new shop featuring my coastal art mosaics to see the latest version.
My latest mosaic piece... a big, giant octopus.
He's actually a little over 4 feet wide but very lightweight.
He got in my head and I just had to make him.
I got on a octopus kick after I added this octopus Christmas stocking
to my other sea life stockings.
I've painted octopuses before
like this octopus painting on canvas...
I paired him with a coordinating sea coral painting.
And here was a cute octopus I painted on a glass bottle,
I drew my design and cut out of plywood.
I worked on him off and on over a few weeks while working
on other orders.
When I spotted these mother of pearl round beads
at the craft store, I knew they would be perfect for the "suckers".
I love how they look.
Here's how they look after they were grouted.
I bought two different sizes of them and cut some of them in half
I used a beautiful blue/green stained glass with a darker
blue for accent on the arms and dark gray grout.
All those arms and edges were definitely a challenge to mosaic and grout!
Sold
I do love how he turned out.
Thanks for checking out all my octopus pics.
Be sure and stop by my new shop featuring my mosaics.
I still have items available in my Etsy Shop as well.
