Giant 5 Foot RePurposed and Recycled Wooden Butterfly Art

huge recycled butterfly art
This is a huge butterfly cut from plywood, about 5 feet wide and 4 feet tall.

I painted the background and added hinges, nuts, door knob plates, wooden letters, washers and whatever else I plucked out of my yummy, junky, recycled pile of goodies

I used a row of rusty hinge pieces on the body....

All kind of washers, nuts and door plates...

The antennae were scrolly pieces from a fireplace screen
....patiently waiting for their moment to be transformed into butterfly antenna.

junk bugs
Wooden letters, latches, brick ties and more...

I actually ended up adding even more to this piece after I had taken these pictures.  I filled up all the empty spaces with bottlecaps that I pounded flat. I used the underside of the bottlecap that didn't have the printing on it, but I sold it before I remembered to take another picture :(

I've since created even more giant butterflies and dragonflies too.

I've moved to Lucydesignsart.com to focus on my mosaic art. I'm no longer creating dragonflies or mermaids.
