Dremel Carving on Nightstand Table Furniture with Flowers and Vine Design and Tutorial

A little nightstand makeover

I came across this wooden piece and thought I could work

some makeover magic.

I removed the dividers and primed.

I had the idea to use the Dremel to carve a design on the nightstand.

I've used the Dremel before to carve swirls in this mirror as well 

as other carved design mirrors.

I also used it on this cute Cheetah Bench to carve the leopard spots.

Most recently, I used it to carve spirals on the wings of this dragonfly.

You can see how versatile it can be plus it's really fun and easy to do.

For the nightstand, I painted a brown-ish basecoat then drew my design on with chalk.

I was going for a flowers and leaves flowing design.

I started carving with the dremel over my chalk design.

I use this type of dremel bit in different sizes when carving in wood.

For me, this type/shape of bit is a good general purpose bit and easy to use.

After all parts were carved, I applied a second coat of brown paint

 Working in sections so the paint wouldn't dry completely, 

I brushed on dark brown paint and wiped away the excess.

You want to make sure to get the dark paint in all the carved recesses.

I was originally going to leave the inside plain, 

but decided to carve a trailing vine and flowers inside too...

I finished it off by carving dots all along the edges and the bottom.

I added a couple of coats of polyurethane and it was ready to go.
